"Fubuki (Blizzard) was the lead ship of twenty-four Fubuki-class destroyers, built for the Imperial Japanese Navy following World War I. When introduced into service, these ships were the most powerful destroyers in the world. They served as first-line destroyers through the 1930s, and remained formidable weapons systems well into the Pacific War. Fubuki was a veteran of many of the major battles of the first year of the war, and was sunk in Ironbottom Sound during the Battle of Cape Esperance in World War II."
In Kantai Collection, Fubuki has an earnest and diligent personality, but lacks any notable quirks or notable personality traits, and is often considered very plain. Because of this, in spite of being one of the five Starter Ships, and originally the "Main Character" of the series, she had few fans or fanworks. However her popularity has risen considerably since her second remodel and starring role in the anime adaption.
She gained her second remodel with the January 9th 2015 update and thus, becomes the first starter ship to have one. Her serafuku becomes black with red stripes on white (like Ayanami before her) and replaces her standard 12.7cm twin turret with a long 10cm turret and wears a type 94 anti-aircraft fire detector on her left wrist. Her use of this gear is fictive, however. She was sunk before she ever had a chance to be refit with AA weaponry.
She obtained her first seasonal CG for Autumn 2016 with the August 31st 2016 update. She is dressed in a happi labeled for the 11th Destroyer Division for both of her forms with a rope headband and a serving of cotton candy. The main differences between both forms are that her happi is blue and her clothes are blue and white for her unremodeled self, while her remodeled form has a red happi with black and red clothes. Her damaged portrait reveals that she wears a fundoshi under her skirt.
Despite her unpopularity as a "main character", she is still the viewpoint character of the official 4koma Fubuki-chan Gambarimasu!, (although initially Hyuuga gets more lines, and a more important role,) as well as the leading role in the anime adaptation.
